The pocket clip states 1915, but this pen was most likely made in the 1920s. The black rubber's chasing is nearly perfect, although it is a little worn near the tail. It has some "chocolating," as you can see but the imprint on the barrel is still very strong, reading " 'Swan' Self-Filling Pen / Mabie.Todd & Co. New York / Pats.Jan.26.04.May.21.18.Pat.Pd3". The 3 is a little faded. There also is an image of a swan, with what might be faded imprinting below it. What we love most are the instructions imprinted on the pen with "Posting" written on the tail and "Screw Cap Tightly" and an arrow pointing left on the top of the cap. A slightly faded "5 S F." is written on the flat of the tail. The size 3 gold nib is pretty easy to read in the photo, and a short hairline crack has sprouted from the breather hole. It writes an extra-fine line. Original inkfeed. This vintage fountain pen is fully restored. 13.8cm capped.
