Vintage Pens: Parker 51
Vintage Pens: 2354 Parker 51
Some vintage pen aficionados will gladly argue that the Parker 51 was the greatest fountain pen design ever created. It was certainly one of the most popular, as it remained in production for 30 years! This burgundy model with a 12k gold-filled cap is from the 1950s. There are no dents in the cap, which has pinstripes forming pyramids. Light, shallow scratches from use are unavoidable, but there are no deep, obvious scratches visible at regular writing distance from your eye. It has an original aerometric filler that is still in great working order. The original 14k gold nib writes a wet, medium line. It feels smooth to us, but some might argue it has a touch of drag with a feint about of feedback. It feels like a normal 51 nib to us. No cracks foul the hood or barrel, but there are some deep scratches on the tail where the cap had been repeatedly posted. 13.8cm capped.
