Pre-Owned Pens: 1922: Zola: Fountain Pen Set
Here's a good bargain for a fountain pen and ballpoint set by Zola. The burgundy pens with golden trim are very attractive and come in a velvet-covered box. The fountain pen uses a seemingly standard international squeeze-bar converter that doesn't seem to hold a ton of ink. The iridium nib writes a decent fine line for what it is. The ballpoint extends and retracts with a twist of the tail. We installed a fresh Parker-style refill. The only problem seems to be that the refill sometimes needs a little push to go all the way back into the pen when retracting.
Pre-Owned Pens: 1921 Sheaffer Sentinel
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $29.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 1921: Sheaffer: Sentinel
Reviving the Sentinel name, Sheaffer brought forth this fountain pen in the 1980s or '90s. It bears a striking resemblance to the Mont Blanc Noblesse, which is unusual for Sheaffer designers. Still it is a nice slender preowned fountain pen in excellent condition. The alloy nib is marked both "F-4" and "M,"over the years those would imply two conflicting nib designations. Either way, it writes a nice, smooth fine-medium line with only a hint of feedback. It uses cartridges or a converter but comes with neither. It does include its original box and papers. 13.4cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 1917: Sheaffer: Imperial (Dolphin)
One Sheaffer's last fountain pens marketed to the masses at the tail end of the original fountain pen era was its Imperial. Our Sheaffer Imperial is particularly noteworthy for its "dolphin" nib. These were factory-made nibs in which they had cut away the complete inlay nib and installed more of a cowled nib such as the Parker 51. It is a neat oddity for your collection, and this steel or palladium nib writes a nice, smooth medium line. This is a cartridge-only pen, unless you can find a Sheaffer converter to fit it. The cap is mostly okay, but the section and barrel show a fair amount of wear from use. 13.4cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 1901 Cross Apogee Medalist
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $99.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 1901: Cross: Apogee Medalist
Except for our dipping this pen, we think it is a NEW OLD STOCK Cross Apogee Medalist. Its chrome and gold finish are perfect. The converter and original cartridges (now dried out) are in the bottom of the original box. The top of the box is a little stained. (Click the headline for a closer look.) The 18k white gold nib writes a medium line. The clip is actually springloaded. If you pinch the top, it opens the clip for easier insertion into a pocket or purse. Perfect for all of your writing and collecting needs. 14cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 1895: Sheaffer: Imperial
If you like smoooooth extra-fine nibs, our Sheaffer Imperial is worth a closer look. (At least we think it is an imperial. It has the squared off cap and inlaid nib, but its tail isn't squared but rounded.) Chrome trim looks great against its medium to dark blue body. The cap and barrel have traces of wear from use but nothing terrible. We installed a still-working squeeze-bar converter, but it should take modern Sheaffer cartridges and converters. Its palladium extra-fine nib is dreamy. 13.1cm capped.

Pre-Owned Pens: 1565: Retro 51: Cioppino Tornado
Real abalone shells are lacquered into place for one of Retro 51's most eye-catching fountain pens. Our Retro 51 Cioppino Tornado is new old stock with a sticker still attached to the cap. It comes complete with its box and papers. Although it looks as if the nib has not been dipped, the pen is missing its original converter and cartridges. We're not sure it ever had a converter. It might only take the short international cartridges.
Pre-Owned Pens: 1564 Retro 51 Double Eight

Price: $125.00

Pre-Owned Pens: 1564: Retro 51: Double Eight
New Old Stock! A Retro 51 Double Eight is an extremely handsome fountain pen. Warm, late-summer colors radiate in layers off its octagonal cap and barrel. There are hardly any traces of wear. The converter is free of ink, and the nib and feed look as if they have never been dipped. Click the headline for a good look at the steel nib. It is marked "F" in a cursive script, presumably to indicate a fine-point nib. It looks more like a medium. We didn't dip it, but it feels smooth dry on paper. Complete with box! A true collector's item for Retro 51 fans. 14cm capped.

Pre-Owned Pens: 1563: Retro 51: Retro 1951
Here's a Retro 1951 fountain pen that appears to be new old stock. The medium steel nib might have been dipped, but the original ink cartridges are still in their tube and the converter seems to be free of any ink staining. There are almost no traces of wear on the pen that comes in its original box. We think the clip and trim might have silver plating, as they had tarnished a bit before we polished them. This tortoise shell design is lovely. The pen comes with its original box...and seemingly no papers. Much larger than the more recent Retro 51 Tornado pens. 14.1cm capped.
