Pre-Owned Pens: 1888 Cross Matrix
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $19.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 1888: Cross: Matrix
Multi-pen users are in luck. This Cross Matrix pen is a 4-in-1 combo. On one end you have a fountain pen and stylus. On the other end are two ballpoint pen refills (red and blue). It comes complete with its original box display. We gave the fountain pen a good sonic cleaning. The steel nib is listed as a medium and writes really wet medium. It only uses Cross cartridges. Flip the fountain pen side over and you have a stylus for your digital devices. The other end of the pen twists either way to reveal micro refills for red and blue ink. Both are writing, but we have no idea how much ink remains. This pen is in great shape, but unfortunately the fountain pen grip is really sticky with the rubberized grip. We've washed it with soap and water, but it is still sticky. 15.2cm capped.

Pre-Owned Pens: 1771: Sheaffer: Prelude
Sheaffer keeps going strong with popular pens such as its Prelude. This long-running model features easy cartridge/converter filling and comes with a converter. Gently used, you can see where the snap cap started to scratch and wear on the tail of the pen. Otherwise, the pen is in very good condition. The golden nib is marked as a medium and writes smoothly. Click the headline to see it. 13.3cm capped.

Pre-Owned Pens: : Caran D’Ache: Ecridor Chevron Fountain Pen
Brand new pen that my wife bought for me while she was in Switzerland. I use fine and extra fine nibs, and this is a medium nib, so my loss is your gain!

I inserted a cartridge and tried it out, but otherwise brand new.
Pre-Owned Pens: 1819 Conklin Herringbone
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $19.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 1819: Conklin: Herringbone
PARTS! If you are looking for a great replacement Conklin Herringbone fountain pen cap or barrel, this is for you. Each of those parts is in great conditon. There are some marks of wear on the cap ring, but the rest in nearly perfect. HOWEVER, the section is split and totally ruined. A past owner coated it in paper and super glue in an attempt to save it, but that only made it worse. Strictly a parts pen. The stub nib is cool but it is iffy. 13.8cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 1782: Wearever: Fountain Pen
Wearever spent several decades as the leading pen maker in the U.S., at least by volume. As the cheapest mass-distributed pens, they sold tons. When the major brands began experimenting with cartridge pens, Wearever dove in. This vintage pen was one the company's early cartridge pens. More impressively, it comes with a small stash of unopened (and completely dried out) cartridges. The nib and its hood are vaguely reminiscent of the ones Sheaffer made for Sears. This steel nib writes a dry, fine line. We don't know if it will work by refilling the old cartridge, although we did give the nib section a sonic cleaning. The pen shows plenty of wear, but it is a nice novelty piece with its cartridges. 13.5cm capped.

Era: 1980-present
Price: $199.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 1793: Caran d’Ache: G (Marbled Green)
They say that the pen is mightier than the sword. If that is true, just imagine how mighty you will be wielding a pen with a sword clip! Green marbling makes this Caran d'Ache fountain pen look incredibly handsome. Solidly built and nicely weighted, you write with a pen of substance. Click the headline font for closeups, as you can see a little white chip in the lacquer finish near the tail of the barrel. Other than that, we don't think this pen has ever been used. Its converter is clean, and the box and papers are complete. The nib is a really nice broad 18k gold. 13.7cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 1762 Cross ATX
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $39.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 1762: Cross: ATX
Cross still makes great daily user fountain pens. Take the Cross ATX for example. Ours has a durable metal cap and barrel that won't break when dropped (like a Mont Blanc.) It has a smooth-writing, medium steel nib. This pen uses Cross-only cartridges or a screw-in Cross converter. This pen comes with neither, but it is a bargain at more than 50% its original retail price. The bronze-colored, chrome-trimmed cap and barrel sport a record grove design that has no scratches, cracks or dents. We don't think it was used much at all. 13.9cm capped.
