Vintage Pens: 2369: Sheaffer: TM
The post-war years were some of the most creative for Sheaffer. Using pneumatics (known as the TouchDown filler) to fill their pens, Sheaffer TM (Thin Model) fountain pens became a huge hit. Only made for 4 years, they quickly evolved into the Sheaffer Snorkel, which was a mess-free filler. This is an earlier Sheaffer TM, before snorkels were added. We restored it with a new O-ring and ink sac. To fill it, all you do is unscrew the tail cap, pull it up, stick the nib in ink and push down on the tail. One pump fills the pen. This one even has an ink viewing window to let you know if the pen is empty. The cap and barrel feature only light wear and scratching. There are no cracks, dents or deep scratches. The intentionally upturned two-tone 14k gold nib writes a very nice medium line. 13.5cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 2334: Sheaffer: Tuckaway
Take your favorite fountain pen anywhere with the classic Sheaffer Tuckaway! Small enough to conceal in a vest or breast pocket, this short pen with a tiny clip was originally designed not to break military uniform code, as the tiny clip would stay hidden under the flap of a uniform breast pocket. We restored this vintage pen with a fresh ink sac and O-ring. It has some light wear on the cap and barrel, but the most egregious is a ring around the tail, where it looks as if the O-ring is attempting to escape. The O-ring is secure, but this type of cosmetic damage is common enough and should have no lasting effect on the pen's performance. Click the headline to see the nib and ink view window better. The viewer is ambered but clear. The 14k gold, two-tone nib writes an exquisite ultra-extra-fine line without scratching, as long as you don't write with much pressure. 11.8cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 2259: Sheaffer: Lifetime TouchDown
Forest green makes for a standout color on this very early wide-body Sheaffer Lifetime Touchdown. We restored it with a new ink sac and O-ring. The pen is very handsome, but there is some light-moderate wear on the cap and barrel. The imprint is strong, but you can see a little bulge warm from where the cap hugged the section grip. Click the headline for bigger photos of it. The two-tone 14k gold nib writes an extra-extra-fine line. It is very firm, but it is a dream pen for extra-fine nib fans. A great vintage pen. 13.3cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 1248: Sheaffer: TM-Triumph
All engravings aside, this rare Sheaffer Touchdown TM Triumph has been one of our favorite finds of late. It looks like it did when it left the store more than 60 years ago. We replaced the ink sac and O-ring. The clip is on tight. There is no wear on the gold-filled pen. It is engraved on the barrel with the name of "Louis Schaaf." The cap is engraved "10 Years / Tension Env Corp". The two-tone conical Triumph nib is 14k gold and writes a firm fine line. Click the headline font to see a close up. A small patch of gold shines through the palladium plate on the bottom tine of the photo. 13.5cm capped.
