Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $49.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2333: Diplomat: Classic Collection
Green marbling looks great on this standard-size Diplomat Classic Collection fountain pen. It is great condition with only minimal wear. Attracting attention for all the right reasons, it is much more solidly constructed than its more famous German rivals. The pen fills with either standard international cartridges or converters, but it comes with neither. The nib is made of two-toned steel. Plating is wearing pretty thin. Click the headline to see. The nib is marked medium, but it writes a broad line with a little feedback. 13.5cm capped.

Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $75.00
Pre-Owned Pens: 2331: Diplomat: Classic Collection
Diplomat is a good German pen that gets overshadowed by its more famous countrypens. Its silver-plated trim and blue-marble cap and barrel are in excellent condition with minimal wear. It is an oversized and weighty pen. The steel nib writes a nice medium line that sings a little as it writes. It comes with a converter, but it also uses standard international cartridges. 13.8cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 2258 Diplomat Magnum
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $29.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2258: Diplomat: Magnum
Need a go-anywhere pen? Germany's Diplomat Magnum fountain pens are a nice durable pen that look nice with modern design. The muted metal accents nicely accentuate the rubberized feel of the cap and barrel. Each show light wear but still look fine. The metal nib is marked medium and writes a very smooth medium line. This pen uses standard international cartridges, and one presumes will fit most any standard international converters. The section grip is a bit on the slender side. Very lightweight for writing all day. 13.2cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 2234 Bexley Gemstone Collection Sapphire
Filling Mechanism: Rollerball
Era: 1980-present
Price: $174.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2234: Bexley: Gemstone Collection Sapphire
Believe it or not, Bexley pens is about to turn 25! This Bexley Gemstone Sapphire rollerball pen is a stunner. Borrowing heavily from the beautiful but ill-fated Waterman 100 Year Pen design, this modern classic is holding up much better. Not a true rollerball, it is a capped pen that presently writes with a Parker-style gel refill! The brilliant-blue finish shines through some light wear. 13.8cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 2090 Majestic Fountain Pen
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1940-1949
Price: $39.99
Vintage Pens: 2090: Majestic: Fountain Pen
It isn't often that you can find a gold-nibbed vintage pen for less than $40. Majestic pens were a third-tier pen maker back in the 1930s and '40s. This attractive brown-striped pen has a brand new ink sac and is ready to write. It also has a clear ink-viewing window. There are some scratches and wear on the pen. No cracks in the lip of the pen, but the very top has either two little cracks or deep scratches. Armed with a 14k gold nib, this pen writes a medium line with a little feedback. Technically, the nib has a little flex, but it isn't really a flex writer. Yet, if you want practice honing a nib to make it a flex, this might be a good nib to try your hand while not spending a fortune. 12.4cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 2089 No Name Fountain Pen
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1930-1939
Price: $35.00
Vintage Pens: 2089: No Name Fountain Pen
Bright green, white and yellow stripes make this classic no name brand fountain pen look like something Dick Van Dyke might have written with in "Mary Poppins." It's a cheeky pen with a lot of life left in it. We replaced the ink sac. Its Iridium Tipped nib writes a very firm fine line. We suspect that this nib is a replacement from long ago. The cap and barrel have light wear but no cracks or serious blemishes. The clip seems to be on strong and tight. You can see the lever ring through the plastic, but every thing seems to be working well. It is a nice fat pen, which makes it easier to grip for longer periods without cramping your hand. 11.2cm capped.

Pre-Owned Pens: 2028 Zeppelin Ballpoint
Filling Mechanism: Ballpoint
Era: 1980-present
Price: $49.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2028: Zeppelin: Ballpoint
Oh, the humanity! What German company in its right mind would name itself Zeppelin? Fortunately, these pens don't come loaded with hydrogen and static electricity. It is actually a rather elegant and nicely weighted ballpoint pen that is plated in silver. As a daily user, it is rife with light scratches, but there are no dents or deep scars. It uses Parker-style refills that advance and retract with a twist of the tail. The refill writes well. 14.7cm capped.
