Vintage Pens: Sheaffer Lifetime
Vintage Pens: 2652 Sheaffer Lifetime
No vintage pen collection is complete without an oversized Sheaffer Lifetime Flattop fountain pen. These pens were among the very best produced in the 1920s. About the size of a robusto cigar, they were considered tankers for ink reserves back in its own time. Ours is in great working order with a fresh ink sac. There are no cracks. It has some light wear from daily use, especially around the top of the cap. The clip and cap ring have some brassing. The original 14k gold Lifetime nib is complemented by a slightly later Sheaffer Balance inkfeed. It writes a firm, extra-fine line. (The firmness was to help it write through carbon copies back in the 1920s.) On the flat bottom is a small "c" imprint. This actually indicated that the pen barrel was made by a contractor hired by Sheaffer! 13.3cm capped.
