Vintage Pens: Parker Duofold
Vintage Pens: 5234 Parker Duofold
Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
It was a big deal when Parker Duofolds switched from hard rubber to a stronger material called "Permanite." This is a nearly perfect senior-sized permanite cap and barrel—only a little wear from use and where the cap makes a ring as it screws to the barrel. Nice deep, crisp, clean imprint that was slightly darkened to make the perfection more visible. Minimal, if any, brassing on the gold-filled trim. We restored this vintage pen with a new ink sac. Click the headline for a close-up of its 14k gold nib. You will write a smooth, firm fine line that just barely lets you feel the paper beneath your hand. Are you on the close-up, yet? You should see a tiny hairline crack sprouting from the breather hole. We can't see it with the naked eye. There's 10-times magnification on this photo to help show it. Also, the nib has some discoloration we can't buff out on the left side of the nib from the breather hole to the left. Nevertheless, it is a great writer that looks sharp. 14cm capped.
