Era: 1950-1959
Price: $69.99
Vintage Pens: 3182: Sheaffer: Statesman
Go gray. It is not too early to appreciate this classic Sheaffer Statesman snorkel fountain pen. We love the intricate Rube Goldberg snorkel-filling system...the mess-free way to fill a vintage pen. We replaced the ink sac, O-ring and point seal. No cracks mar its surface, but it does have light to moderate surface wear, which is hidden easily by the handsome grey color of the pen. It comes with a screw-out, later-model palladium silver nib that writes a smooth, wet extra-fine line. Click the headline for a close-up of the nib. 14.2cm capped.

Era: 1950-1959
Price: $69.99
Vintage Pens: 0442: Sheaffer: Statesman
Burgundy gleams in this classic Sheaffer Statesman snorkel fountain pen. We replaced the ink sac, O-ring and point seal in this classic vintage pen. It was designed to out-do the ballpoint for the mess-free writing experience. A little tube (snorkel) comes out from under the nib to refill the pen. Once full, nothing needs to be wiped down! Ours is restored and in good working order. The conical "Triumph" nib is made of what Sheaffer advertised as "palladium silver." It writes a nice fine line! 14.2cm capped.

Italy's incredible craftsman create a masterpiece with the Montegrappa Passioné ballpoint pen. It is a wider bodied pen that is easier to grip without cramping, and it has a little weight for an easier momentum-building writing experience. Our preowned luxury pen is in nearly mint condition with only the most minimal wear. It uses Parker-style ballpoint refills, and it comes with a working black refill. 13.3cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 3181 Sheaffer Admiral
Filling Mechanism: Snorkel
Era: 1950-1959
Price: $59.99
Vintage Pens: 3181: Sheaffer: Admiral
Ahoy! Sheaffer Admiral fountain pens are an excellent first voyage into Sheaffer snorkel pens. Snorkels were Sheaffer's premier filling system of the 1950s. Fighting for relevancy as ballpoints came to dominate the marketplace, Sheaffer took on the #1 complaint about fountain pens head-on. People complained about getting their fingers inky after wiping down a nib after refilling. Sheaffer created the ultimate Rube Goldberg device to prevent customers from having to touch a single drop of ink...the snorkel filler. We replaced this pen's ink sac, O-ring and point seal. The pen, itself, is in nearly mint condition without any cracks or significant traces of wear. Its open, monotone 14k gold nib writes a smooth, fine-medium line. Click the headline for an amazing nib photo. 14.2cm capped.

Filling Mechanism: Ballpoint
Era: 1980-present
Price: $299.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2961: Montegrappa: Memoria Pinstripe
When it comes to sterling silver pens, don't overlook the Montegrappa Memoria Pinstripe ballpoint. Nearly twice as wide as a Montblanc Classique Solitaire, the Memoria is a dignified, luxurious writing instrument for the same price. Italian silversmiths sure know their stuff. No dents or dings, only minimal wear. A large black "jewel" graces the tail. The tail twists to extend and retract the black, Parker-style ballpoint refill, which is still working and likely barely used. 13.8cm

Vintage Pens: 3179: Esterbrook: SJ-9048
If pens had a flavor, this one would definitely be mint. We love the mint-green color on this Esterbrook SJ fountain pen from the 1950s. It is free of cracks and has only minimal surface wear while sporting a strong imprint. We restored this vintage pen with a new ink sac. Even the pocket clip is still on tightly. Landing it in the "Nobody's Perfect Club" is a big chip taken out of the black tail jewel and a lever that hangs down about 10 degrees when upside down. Its steel 9048 was considered an upgrade nib for "Shaded Writing." Yes, that's code for FLEX! Click the headline for a close-up. It writes a wet fine line that does flex with a little pressure. It leans closer to semi-flex than wet noodle. 12cm capped.

Filling Mechanism: Ballpoint
Era: 1980-present

Pre-Owned Pens: 2960: Montegrappa: Ducale
If you want artistic modern luxury fit for a Renaissance noble, look no further than the Montegrappa Ducale ballpoint pen. Rose gold-plated accents and a stunning celluloid listed as "Emperador Brown" make for a very handsome oversized pen. You really gotta hand it to those stunning Italian craftsmen and women who produce these pens. Ours is preowned but exceedingly gently used. There is minimal if any wear. It comes loaded with a working Parker-style black ballpoint refill. It has a great width and weight to make writing easier without cramping. 14.5cm.
Vintage Pens: 3178 Esterbrook SJ-9555
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1950-1959
Price: $59.99
Vintage Pens: 3178: Esterbrook: SJ-9555
Copper makes for the most attractive color of the Esterbrook SJ series of pens, in our humble opinion. There just aren't that many pens out there in that color. We have fully restored this Esterbrook SJ pen with a fresh ink sac. No cracks, tight clip, complete plastic jewels, clean but weak imprint. Light surface wear is the vintage pen's only problem. Its 9555 nib is considered an upgrade nib designed by the company for shorthand, leading us to believe this pen once belonged to a secretary, stenographer or journalist. The steel nib writes an extra-fine line with a little feedback. If you aren't wild about it, our favorite part about these pens is that the nibs unscrew easily for dozens of different replacement points! 12cm capped.
