Vintage Pens: Sheaffer Saratoga
Vintage Pens: 2267 Sheaffer Saratoga
Our favorite Rube Goldberg filling system is back with this Sheaffer Saratoga snorkel filler! In an effort to keep up with the ever-improving mess-free ballpoint technology of the 1950s, Sheaffer created these ingenious vintage pens. Push and twist the blind tail cap counter clockwise to reveal a little snorkel tube from under the nib. Pull back on the tail cap, stick the snorkel in ink, push down on the tail cap, wait a second and then turn the tail cap clockwise until the snorkel is fully retracted! The nib never gets inky, and there is no mess to clean. We fully restored this one with a new ink sac, point seal and O-ring. The two-tone 14k gold nib writes a really nice firm extra-fine line. It isn't quite a Japanese extra fine, but it is as close as a 1950s Sheaffer will likely get. 14.2cm capped.
