Sheaffer

William A. Sheaffer founded the Sheaffer Pen Company in 1912. His invention of the lever-filling fountain pen that year revolutionized how fountain pens were filled, and by the 1920s Sheaffer became one of the world's most dominant pen companies. Always innovating filling systems, Sheaffer also created a Vacuum-Fil pen, pneumatic TouchDown filler and pneumatic Snorkel filler that made for the first truly mess-free bottled-ink filling system. Started in Fort Madison, Iowa, the Sheaffer Pen Company today is owned by its one-time rival A.T. Cross.

Vintage Pens: 5267: Sheaffer: Sentinel
The sophisticated writer of the 1950s insisted on the mess-free luxury of the Sheaffer Sentinel fountain pen. Under pressure from the booming ballpoint market, Sheaffer created these overengineered fountain pens to suck up ink through a snorkel to provide wipe-free filling. Our vintage pen has been fully restored with a new ink sac, point seal and O-ring. In excellent condition, there is only light wear: no dents or deep scratches. You will write a very nice, smooth fine line with its two-tone 14k gold nib. 14.2cm capped.

We find the over-engineered, Rube Goldberg-style filling of the Sheaffer Snorkel to be enchanting. Better than just any Snorkel, this is a New Old Stock Sheaffer Snorkel Desk Pen in its original box! We restored it with a new point seal and O-ring, and now it is in perfect working order. By no means too large for even a modern desk, this is the perfect vintage pen at work or at home! By the chalk mark still visible in the photo, Sheaffer declared this a fine-point nib. Click the headline for close-ups. The perfect gift for graduation, birthdays, anniversaries and more.

Get a jump start on vintage ballpoint pen collecting with this 14-piece set of 1950s and '60s Sheaffer ballpoint pens. A hodge-podge of different models and designs, these all take refills that Sheaffer no longer makes. However, many can be adapted to take modern Sheaffer refills. Some are still stickered while others look a little used. None appear to be commonly found any more, though they surely still exist. A nice look into Sheaffer's early foray into somewhat disposable pens, in some of these cases.

Vintage Pens: 5528: Sheaffer: Balance Lifetime
If you are thinking that this price is too good to be true for an oversized Sheaffer Balance Lifetime, you'd be right. There's about a 1-inch crack on the bottom tail side of this vintage pen. However, given how durable these pens are, that doesn't mean this can't still be a great knock-around daily driver. We restored the pen with a new ink sac. You will write an extra-fine line with its 14k gold nib. Click the headline for close-ups. As so many XF nibs do, this one has some feedback. 14.6cm capped.

Yes, it shows a little light wear and light scratching, but there are no dents or cracks. It is a pretty handsome pen, if we do say so ourselves. You might really love its 14k gold inlaid nib that writes a smooth fine line. 13.6cm capped.

Like any true fan of the "Iggles" this is a hardworking, scrappy pen that shows its scars but still works as good as new. This vintage pen was fully restored. Click the headline for close-ups. You'll seem some deep scratches around the section where the cap snugs against it. There are no cracks, but the pen shows plenty of wear. Price: $649.99
Vintage Pens: 5453: Sheaffer: PFM-III
The rarest among the standard colors of Sheaffer Pen for Men was the grey. Our guess is that the men of the late 1950s and early '60s wanted a pen that contrasted with their grey-flannel suits. Nevertheless, this Sheaffer PFM-III set was quite the luxurious writing instrument of its day. It has been fully restored to great working order. The fountain pen is free of cracks and deep scratches. There is only light wear from use. You will write a very pleasingly smooth fine line with its inlaid 14k gold nib. Its matching vintage pencil is almost new old stock! The remains of a pricing "chalk" mark is still on the barrel. No cracks or scratches. Just light shop wear. Advance and retract the lead with a twist of the tail cap. It comes loaded with a lead but has no spares. Its original blue eraser still feels fresh!
