Vintage Pens: Esterbrook Transition

Vintage Pens: 5934 Esterbrook Transition
Era: 1940-1949   Fountain Pen Nib Size: O

As Esterbrook switched from Dollar Pens to J-model pens, the company found itself with too many leftover Dollar Pen Barrels. Instead of letting them go to waste, they fitted them up with J caps. The end result is the Esterbrook Transition pen. Our vintage pen is a very attractive mint green. We restored it with a new ink sac. The biggest flaw with the pen is the start of a hairline crack in the lip of the cap. Unfortunately, it seems to be on a seam in the celluoid. Although it hasn't run all the way up the cap, it likely will soon. The saving grace of this pen is its somewhat hard-to-find 2314 M Relief nib! It is a smooth italic or oblique nib that writes with some great line variation. 12.4cm capped.
