Vintage Pens: J. Harris & Co. Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen
Vintage Pens: 2341 J. Harris & Co. Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen
Hard rubber AND flex nib fans will love this rare treat. It is a J. Harris & Co. fountain pen from New York. We're guessing it is from the early 1920s, after the company switched from slip to screw caps. The chasing is clear but worn in places. The company logo is worn but visible on the cap. The clip has a company logo off-center and difficult to read. We restored the pen with a new ink sac. The Warranted 14k gold nib is very flexible and goes from extra fine on a slant to 2mm on a down stroke. The nib has a little feedback and will take a little getting used to. We smoothed it a bit, but you'll still get a little scratch. No cracks, a few scratches...The biggest flaw is a large bulge in the tail, which was caused by 90 odd years of pressure from a mis-set (but working) J-bar. We left it mis-set, as the pen and J-bar are so old and frail, it risked ruining the pen. J. Harris was the parent company of the Ambassador, Congress, University and Majestic pen brands. 13.2cm capped.
