Vintage Pens: 5974: Wahl-Eversharp: Doric Desk Pen
We've seen a lot of cool desk pens in our day, and we really love this frosted-brown-glass pelican made for an Eversharp Doric desk pen. It looks even more impressive with back lighting as the bird looks as if it is standing on rippling water. The glass is perfect without any cracks or chips. There is a very small crack in the celluloid trumpet's bottom, and the gold plating polished off the trim of both the trumpet and pen. We restored the pen with a new ink sac and J-bar. The very tip of the taper has been broken off. The section has a little chocolate hazing. This is a nice thick, larger pen. We love its smooth, fine-point 14k gold nib. It isn't an original Doric nib, but it an Eversharp replacement from a decade later. Click the headline for close-ups. Pen is 20.2cm long. Base 10.5cm L X 9cm W X 12.5cm H.
Vintage Pens: 5311 Parker Vacumatic
Filling Mechanism: Vacuum Filler
Era: 1940-1949   Fountain Pen Nib Size: XF
Price: $149.99
Vintage Pens: 5311: Parker: Vacumatic
We love finding Parker Vacumatics that are still in close-to-new condition. This vintage pen still has a light-yellow barrel clarity! It is no longer that green-yellow from right off the line, but it is still pretty good. No cracks, minimal--if any--brassing. We restored this pen with a new diaphragm. The biggest "flaw" is that its pocket clip spins, even though it is securely on the pen. The blue diamond was Parker's indicator that this pen was guaranteed for the life of its first owner. You will write an extra-fine line with its 14k gold nib. There is a little feedback, but this is a pretty good XF writer. Click the headline for close-ups. 12.8cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5966 Imperial Fountain Pen
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1940-1949   Fountain Pen Nib Size: SF
Price: $49.99
SOLD!
Vintage Pens: 5966: Imperial: Fountain Pen
We think that this is the short-lived Imperial fountain pen made in Nassau, NY. The cap band is imprinted with the Imperial name, much like the very rare Parker Vacumatic pens with a "Vacumatic" engraved in the cap band. We think the trim might be plated-silver that is brassing. A good ink sac has been installed. We love the blue-and-grey design. It comes with an "Imperial" imprinted 14k gold nib. Click the headline for close-ups. You will see the bottom side of the nib is cracked in the photo. You will write a semi-flex line that grows from extra-fine to about 1mm wide. It is a big scratchy. 13.3cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5956 Parker Royal Challenger
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1940-1949   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $199.99
Vintage Pens: 5956: Parker: Royal Challenger
Parker Royal Challengers are handsome vintage pens that offered a slightly less expensive option for pen users who couldn't afford the flagship Vacumatics. This pen is nearly perfect, except for its nickel-plated trim, which is heavily worn. We restored this pen with a new ink sac. It is a button-filler like the older Parker Duofolds. Its ink viewing window is ambered. You will write a nice fine line with its 14k gold nib. Click the headline for close-ups. It has a clean imprint that states it is from the first quarter of 1940. 12.2cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5946 Esterbrook CA
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1950-1959   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $29.99
Vintage Pens: 5946: Esterbrook: CA
Pale blue makes for a handsome Esterbrook CA fountain pen. These were Esterbrook's cartridge-only pens. Unfortunately, there are no Esterbrook cartridges that are officially available. However, we've heard rumor that you can tweak a Sheaffer cartridge into working. No cracks mar the cap or barrel. You will see a little light surface wear, but, overall, the pen is in great shape. It comes with a steel 1551 nib that we find writes a fine-medium line with a little light feedback. 13.1cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5944 Esterbrook CA
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1950-1959   Fountain Pen Nib Size: XF
Price: $39.99
Vintage Pens: 5944: Esterbrook: CA
New Old Stock Esterbrook CA fountain pens are not an everyday occurrence. This vintage pen still has its original sticker, and the nib does not show any sign of ink. Depending on how your screen is calibrated, this is definitely a bright orange pen. It is close to day-glo orange. Click the headline for close-ups of the nib and sticker. This is a steel 1555 Gregg nib for the famed Gregg shorthand method. No cracks. No cartridge, either. We don't know a modern cartridge that would fit this. Light wear from rattling around a drawer for 60-odd years. 13.2cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5924 Parker Lady Duofold
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1930-1939   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $75.00
Vintage Pens: 5924: Parker: Lady Duofold
Even people who aren't into lady's pens have to shout when they see this Parker Duofold. A streamlined model, it still looks really sharp today in its orange permanite cap and barrel with reblackened hard-rubber end caps. Only the tassie shows brassing. Overall, the pen does show some wear from use, annnnd there is a crack in the barrel threads. However, if you write with a light hand, it should be okay. We restored this pen with a new ink sac, button and pressure bar. It still has its Christmas-tree inkfeed. You will write a fine line with a little feedback using its 14k gold nib. 11.8cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5915 Wahl-Eversharp Symphony
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1950-1959   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $49.99
Vintage Pens: 5915: Wahl-Eversharp: Symphony
Following the grand success of the Skyline model, next came the Eversharp Symphony. Moving to a more slender profile, as most pens of the era did, the Symphony did not meet the same success as the Skyline. In fact, it was a bit of a flop that helped lead to the end of the Wahl-Eversharp brand as it was known at that time. It isn't a bad pen, though. Nice, easy to maintain lever-filler. No frills but no fuss, either. Ours has been heavily worn but not cracked. Originally sold as part of the Gregg Shorthand Method, this pen bears an enameled Gregg top jewel and "Gregg" nib. Click the headline for close-ups. You'll write a nice fine line with its 14k gold nib. 13.4cm capped.
