Vintage Pens: 2372 Sheaffer Valiant Saratoga
Filling Mechanism: Snorkel
Era: 1950-1959
Price: $75.00
Vintage Pens: 2372: Sheaffer: Valiant Saratoga
Clever snorkel collectors will rightfully call us out on the model name of this Sheaffer "Valiant Saratoga." It's a married pen. It has a Sheaffer Valiant cap in a slightly darker burgundy and a lighter burgundy Sheaffer Saratoga body and an open two-tone 14k gold nib. Either way, we restored it with a new point seal, O-ring and ink sac. The snorkel filler works great. The F3 nib writes a smooth fine line! The clip is skewed to the side but seemingly secure. Moderate wear is featured on the cap and barrel, but there are no cracks. 14.1cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 2367 Sheaffer Frankenpen
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $59.99
Vintage Pens: 2367: Sheaffer: Frankenpen
Sheaffer once made a Lifetime fountain pen with a torpedo cap and flattail body. However, we think this is either the work of a clever con man or just somebody trying to make a complete pen from two halves. The barrel and nib are of a 1920s Sheaffer Lifetime Junior-Size. The cap is of a 1930s junior Balance. Together, they make a great pen. We found it this way and restored it with a new ink sac. The cap and barrel each have a fair degree of wear. There is no brassing; nor are there any cracks. The 14k gold nib with original 1920s inkfeed write a very nice, firm medium line. 11.8cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 0568 Sheaffer 400
Filling Mechanism: .9mm)
Era: 1940-1949
Price: $19.99
Vintage Pens: 0568: Sheaffer: 400
Sheaffer discontinued this forest green color after only about 4 years in production for the pastel series of pencils that dominated the 1950s. Although it is not marked a Sheaffer's 400, it is marked Sheaffer's and is identical to the 400 model pencils. In fact, the neat curio about this pencil's imprint are the letters "FA" just under and to the left of the imprint. It is in excellent working order preloaded with original .9mm leads. This vintage pencil was a daily user and sports some scratches and wear. Looks good, overall. 12.2cm.
Vintage Pens: 0550 Sheaffer Craftsman 350
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1940-1949
Price: $25.00
Vintage Pens: 0550: Sheaffer: Craftsman 350
Make math and puzzles even more fun when you write with a classic 1940s Sheaffer pencil. We believe this was a match for the Sheaffer Craftsman fountain pen. Its lovely carmine design is rarer for these vintage pens and pencils. Ours still works with a lead that extends and retracts with a twist of the tail. Spare leads are still loaded in the barrel of the pencil! There is no eraser. The pencil also has no brassing and a strong imprint. The only downside is some moderate wear and scratching that you can better see when you click the headline for a close-up. 12.2cm.
Pre-Owned Pens: 2256 Sheaffer Prelude
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present
Price: $49.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2256: Sheaffer: Prelude
Broad nibs are seemingly very rare for us to find on modern Sheaffer Prelude fountain pens. Luckily, this is one of them! This two-tone steel nib writes a very nice, smooth broad line. Click the headline to see the nib close up. The rest of the pen is fairly standard. There are light traces of wear from use. There are several tiny chips in the finish of the pen's tail. The pre-owned pen comes complete with its Sheaffer converter. It also uses Sheaffer cartridges. 13.2cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 2261 Sheaffer Craftsman
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1940-1949
Price: $59.99
Vintage Pens: 2261: Sheaffer: Craftsman
Striking red-and-black stripes of the rarer "carmine" coloring on this Canadian-made Sheaffer Craftsman Lifetime looks good. We restored it with a new ink sac. The cap has a small hairline crack in the lip. Both the cap and barrel have moderate wear and scratches. Maybe 1% brassing on cap ring. The firm two-tone 14k gold nib writes an extra fine line with a little feedback. The section is in solidly, but it isn't 100% "in," as you can see in the photos. Click the headline for close-ups. 12cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 2255 Sheaffer Statesman
Filling Mechanism: Snorkel
Era: 1950-1959
Price: $149.99
Vintage Pens: 2255: Sheaffer: Statesman
One of the rarer colors of the Sheaffer snorkel line of pens is this Buckskin Tan (It looks pink to us, but what do we know?). It is especially exciting to see the matching white dot cap! We have fully restored this Sheaffer Statesman with a new ink sac, O-ring and point seal. The conical "triumph" nib is made of "Palladium Silver," writing a delightfully smooth, wet medium line. No cracks, light surface wear. Hmmm. Great Rube Goldberg filling system, rarer color, great writing nib...what's not to love?! 14.2cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 2233 Sheaffer Balance Millennium
Filling Mechanism: Ballpoint
Era: 1980-present
Price: $124.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 2233: Sheaffer: Balance Millennium
Sheaffer produced a beautiful limited edition series of pens as we entered the new millennium. Inspired by their greatest pens of the 1920s and '30s, this ballpoint Sheaffer Balance Millennium sports a fantastic blue marble cap and barrel that recreate the shape of the 1920s' Sheaffer Lifetime torpedo pens. Actually made in the U.S.A., this pen is in like-new condition. The twist action of the ballpoint mechanism works perfectly, and the ballpoint refill works well, although we have no idea how much ink is left. 14cm.
