Vintage Pens: 5879: Esterbrook: Dollar Pen
Among the more sought after features on Esterbrook Dollar Pens are the incised cap bands, such as the ones seen on this copper-colored model. We restored this vintage pen with a new ink sac and are happy to say it is free of cracks. However, that does not mean it is free of cosmetic flaws. Click the headline for a close-up. There's a little divot that you can see is missing from the tail end. Plus, there is general wear all over the cap and barrel. Its chrome parts lack their original luster and we couldn't get them to buff back up to a good shine. One of the highlights is this pen's upgraded 2668 nib, which writes a very smooth fine line. 12.1cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5873 Wahl-Eversharp Doric
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1930-1939   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $275.00
Vintage Pens: 5873: Wahl-Eversharp: Doric
In our not-so humble opinion, the Wahl-Eversharp Doric was one of the most attractive art deco pens ever made. Sadly, many of them are decomposing through a process many call krazing. Wahl-Eversharp might have mastered design, but they hadn't, yet, perfected the formula for celluloid. Happily enough, this ruby red pen and pencil show no signs of krazing! They do show a fair amount of wear from use, but there are no cracks and the pen has been fully restored with a new ink sac. Click the headline for a close-up. You will write a very smooth, slightly dry fine line with its 14k gold nib. The pencil is an early clicker that still works. The nose cone is heavily brassed, as such we are hesitant to polish the clicker in the tail. Junior sized instruments. Pen measures 11.9cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5846 Parker Deluxe Challenger
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1930-1939   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $89.99
Vintage Pens: 5846: Parker: Deluxe Challenger
A shiny vintage pen can brighten anybody's day, and we think this Parker Deluxe Challenger Jr. might brighten your's. We love the vibrant green and black marble design. This pen has been fully restored with a new ink sac. There are no cracks or deep scratches, but there is significant brassing, a little wear and a couple bite marks on the blind tail cap. Nice crisp imprint. You will write a nice fine to fine-medium line with its 14k gold nib. It is on the shorter and slender side. Click the headline for close-ups. 11.8cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5470 Parker Duofold Geometric
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1930-1939   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $299.99
Vintage Pens: 5470: Parker: Duofold Geometric
Easily one of our favorite vintage pen designs of all time: the Parker Duofold Geometric! Who doesn't want a pen covered in flying toothbrushes?! Fully restored and ready for action, the fountain pen has a new ink sac. No cracks in the cap or barrel but significant brassing on the trim. You'll also find some wear from use and that the barrel is discolored a couple shades darker than the cap. You'll write a nearly buttery smooth fine line with the 14k gold nib. Cracks won't effect the performance of the nib, but there is a short sideways crack on each side of the nib just above where it enters the section. Click the headline for close ups. The matching pencil shows brassing and wear, but it is in good working order with spare 1.1mm leads.
Vintage Pens: 5739 Parker Thrift Time
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1930-1939   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $299.99
Vintage Pens: 5739: Parker: Thrift Time
Parker mastered marketing during the Great Depression. Instead of reducing the price of flagship Vacumatics and Duofolds, Parker Thrift Time pens were essentially Parker Duofolds with bargain-basement pricing. Barely even advertised, these pens were actually decent sellers at stationary and pen shops and helped keep Parker afloat during the darkest days of the Depression. On the collector market, they can be a little difficult to come by. Here is a fully restored green marble Parker Thrift Time with a still-working grey-marble pencil. Click the headline for close ups.
Vintage Pens: 5458 Sheaffer PFM-IV
Filling Mechanism: Snorkel
Era: 1960-1979   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $449.99
Vintage Pens: 5458: Sheaffer: PFM-IV
Simultaneously luxurious while also designed for intense daily use. The Sheaffer PFM-IV was the last great pen released while the Sheaffer family still owned the company. Ironically, it wasn't the hit then that it is today. Nevertheless, this vintage pen remains a masterpiece in form and function. Our pen has been fully restored and is ready for more action. Yes, it shows a little light wear and light scratching, but there are no dents or cracks. It is a pretty handsome pen, if we do say so ourselves. You might really love its 14k gold inlaid nib that writes a smooth fine line. 13.6cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5405 Parker Duofold
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1920-1929   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $399.99
Vintage Pens: 5405: Parker: Duofold
Enjoy the spark of green life this dead of winter with our jade green senior Parker Duofold. Its vibrant color will remind you of lush, warm days ahead. The cap is nearly perfect, but you can see the barrel is dealing with some discoloration. However, compared to many jade Duofolds, this handsome devil is doing alright. Click the headline for close-ups of the cap and barrel, as well as the 14k gold nib! You will write a firm fine line with a bit of drag. Not really feedback as much as a slightly slowing sensation as you write. We did not install a new ink sac, in hopes of helping this pen not to discolor further. However, we can install one for you, if you want. It has a nice "Christmas Tree" inkfeed, too. 13.9cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5394 Parker Duofold
Filling Mechanism: Button Filler
Era: 1920-1929   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $999.99
Vintage Pens: 5394: Parker: Duofold
Almost Perfect...but not quite. We adore this lapis blue Parker Duofold Senior set. Its blue is breath-taking, especially in the light. However, the barrel is likely about 2 shades darker than the blue of the cap. Click the headline for a close up. The white is still very white in the barrel and cap. The blue is just a couple shades darker. You can clearly see the imprint. We restored this pen with a new ink sac. No cracks or deep scratches in the barrel. There is a scratch you can see on the section near the nib. No brassing on the pen. The 14k gold nib is paired with an original "Christmas tree" ink feed. You will write a very firm, dry fine line with a little feedback. However, it feels to us if this nib just needs some breaking in from use. The more you write with it, the wetter and smoother it will likely get. The matching pencil is lighter in the barrel but it seems to have seen much more use with brassing and some dimples in the metal trim.
