Pre-Owned Pens: 4987 Sheaffer Intrigue
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: M
Price: $199.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 4987: Sheaffer: Intrigue
Sheaffer Intrigue pens are so much fun because they are the attempt Sheaffer made at creating a fun filling system. As father of the most over-engineered pen in history, the Sheaffer Snorkel, modern Sheaffer engineers took a stab at competing with the Snorkel of their predecessors. The Sheaffer Intrigue can use either a Sheaffer cartridge to fill or a specially designed version of the Sheaffer converter that can fill by using the tiny blind cap in the tail...without having to open up the pen. Otherwise, you can unscrew a larger blind cap in the tail to switch out the cartridges. Unfortunately, this pen doesn't have its proprietary converter. It can use one if you can find one. Otherwise, you can still use Sheaffer cartridges. This pen looks almost new without any blemishes. You will write a very smooth medium line with its 14k gold nib! 13.7cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 5207 Omas Bologna
Filling Mechanism: Piston Filler
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: SF
Price: $649.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 5207: Omas: Bologna
Dark golden veins shoot like lightning through the sleek black celluloid of this stunning Omas Bologna fountain pen. In addition to its handsome design by Italy's master craftsmen, the writing experience is divine. Its 14k gold nib writes a buttery smooth medium line, and with just a touch of gentle pressure, it will expand to write a wider line by more than 1mm! Its piston works smoothly. You get the complete box and papers. Now here's the quirks. For some reason the designers added a rose gold pocket clip and possibly a rose gold nib with the rest of the trim looking like regular yellow gold. The only flaws on the pen are 3 discolored pits on the left edge of the pocket clip. Click the headline for close-ups. The cream-colored interior of the presentation box is starting to disintegrate with age, sticking to the blue-leather pen sleeve, which also shows a little wear. If given the choice between this preowned pen and a Montblanc, we'd take this Omas every time. 14.4cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 4985 Aurora Ipsilon
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $149.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 4985: Aurora: Ipsilon
Matte orange is both attractive and rare in the Aurora Ipsilon line. Plus, there's the tactile bonus of a lightly textured finish. This set includes both the fountain pen and ballpoint. The fountain pen comes with an Aurora/Parker-style converter. You can also feed it both companies' ink cartridges. There's light wear and a light mark where the cap posts. You can see its steel nib is marked F for fine, but we find it writes closer to extra-fine with a little feedback. Writing is a simple click away with the ballpoint. You'll get it with a super smooth blue gel refill made by Parker.
Pre-Owned Pens: 4986 Aurora Ipsilon
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $99.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 4986: Aurora: Ipsilon
Aurora Ipsilon pens turn to classic vintage pen design for a look that is very appealing. It would be difficult to say this modern pre-owned pen wasn't a little inspired by the mandarin yellow of vintage Parker Duofolds. Nevertheless, this fountain pen looks stunning with very little, if any, wear. You fill the pen with an included Parker-style converter or Aurora or Parker ink cartridges. Its matching ballpoint pen is a click-cap style using Parker ballpoint refills. It currently has a working blue refill. The click the headline to see the golden nib of the fountain pen. You will write more of an extra-fine line than the fine marked on the nib. If you have written with a lot of pens you might understand what we mean when we say this nib is neither scratchy nor smooth. It rests somewhere between the two on the smoother side.
Pre-Owned Pens: 5174 Mont Blanc Doué Black & White
Filling Mechanism: Ballpoint
Era: 1980-present
Price: $399.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 5174: Mont Blanc: Doué Black & White
Around the early 2000s, Montblanc created a series of really neat designs for its Classique line of pens. Our favorite was this Montblanc Doué Black & White. It has an incredible art deco vibe. This preowned luxury pen is in great working order, and it comes with a working black refill and its original box. This pen has seen some wear and use over the years, but we don't think anyone will notice it at writing distance. No cracks, dents or deep scratches. Guaranteed authentic.
Pre-Owned Pens: 5139 Parker Duofold Centennial
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: M
Price: $349.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 5139: Parker: Duofold Centennial
Celebrate the first 100 years of Parker pens with this 1988 Parker Duofold Centennial fountain pen. This burgundy marbled wonder has the original top "jewel," which is the gold-plated 1888-1988 Parker Centennial logo. Click the headline for a close-up. You can see the pen was put into circulation by a ring of wear around the tail and some corrosion on the section bands just behind the nib. Otherwise the pen is in very good condition and ready for way more writing. Its two-tone 14k gold nib writes a nice medium line. Also included is the original, slightly stained but working, Parker converter. 13.5cm capped.
Pre-Owned Pens: 5138 Parker Duofold Centennial
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $399.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 5138: Parker: Duofold Centennial
Parker seemed to be one of the first if not the first pen company to recognize that there was still demand for fountain pens and the pens of its own past. When it released a new version of its famed Parker Duofold in the 1980s, it was a huge hit. They are still popular enough today to continue being made. This is one of the earlier Parker Duofold Centennial fountain pens and ballpoint sets in a beautiful blue marbled design. Both of these pens show some wear from use but neither has any significant cosmetic flaws. The ballpoint comes with a working blue Parker refill. The fountain pen has an ink-stained but working converter. You will write a nice fine line with its 18k gold nib, which has some light feedback. It comes with its original boxes, though the interior of the box is a yellowed some with age. Click the headline for a close-up.
Pre-Owned Pens: 5106 Montegrappa Extra Stylographe
Filling Mechanism: Piston Filler
Era: 1980-present   Fountain Pen Nib Size: M
Price: $999.99
Pre-Owned Pens: 5106: Montegrappa: Extra Stylographe
The artistry of Italian craftsmen at Montegrappa never ceases to impress. This special Montegrappa Extra Stylographe fountain pen seems to harness the warmth and happiness of the sun on even the coldest nights. Orange flames of celluloid shoot up and down the cap and barrel of this preowned luxury pen, tempered by sterling silver accents. We aren't sure if this pen has ever been used. It looks as if it is new old stock. The only possible clue it was used is the bottle of blue ink that comes with it looks as if it might be drawn down by one or two refills. We filled the pen with water, and the water came out clear. The piston filler works well. However, it has a unique ticking and vibration, as if it is geared like a clock. We didn't write with it, but it has an 18k gold nib that writes a medium line. Complete with original boxes and papers.
